The last casting audition you went on may have been a disaster. Maybe you showed up late, maybe your hair was a mess, you had a sore throat, your dog died, who knows? The art of the casting audition is that you use whatever is happening in your life as inspiration for the performance you are going to be giving. If your dog died, feel the tragedy, or if necessary, flip it into comedy. You're going out on a casting audition for a new comedy starring Chris Rock, and your dog dies the night before! Now that's funny.
The casting audition is your doorway to the world of entertainment. It is your chance to show off your talents in front of someone who is in the position to give you a part and send your career on an upward arc. There are many ways to handle a casting audition, not the least of which is to not panic. If you are nervous, use that to strengthen your performance.
Your goal should be to attend at least one casting audition per week, preferably two or three. Locate them by using many different means, don't rely on just one source of information. There are ways to ace a casting audition, but even if you master them, this does not mean you will get every part you go out for. When you are unsuccessful, take it as a learning experience, and gather yourself for the next casting audition.
