Do you have a face made for radio? Does your voice turn heads and strike fear or inspire hysterical laughter in small children and slightly imbalanced adults? Maybe you could start a new career for yourself by going on a few voice auditions. If you have ever enjoyed the old-time radio shows or doing funny voices or accents, voice auditions are where you can test your skills and see if it is something you can make a living from.
Many people's entire careers are exclusively in voice-over work. Voice auditions are similar to those for regular acting, only there probably won't be a camera involved. They will most likely have you in front of a microphone to record your voice. It is the job of the people who run voice auditions to get a sample of your voice, and a few variations. They will also listen to your voice to see if they think it can work for the project. You will also bring a cassette or CD with samples of your different voices to give them (which you should not expect to have returned).
If doing impressions, accents, dialects, or character/cartoonish voices comes naturally to you, try getting yourself some voice auditions and see what happens. Voice auditions may not be as plentiful as are those for regular acting roles, but they are plentiful, and the competition is not as stiff because most people prefer the glamour and glory of appearing on screen. The great thing is that if you do become successful as an actor, but you enjoy doing voice-over work, you can still go on voice auditions and be involved with major animated features, like many well-known actors are doing today.
